Pokemon and animal cruelty?

The interesting thing about the Pokemon series is that there is an underlying cruel aspect to it. While it is made out that Ash is a nice trainer and loves his Pokemon, it does not stop him from essentially bashing other Pokemon half to death so they will be weak enough to be caught against their will.

Silent Hill 1 Themes

Primary Themes:

Parenting is really the number one theme of the video game Silent Hill. Harry Mason is contrasted against Dahlia Gillespie in terms of his motivations as a parent. Dahlia aims to improve her own life at cost to her child, whereas Harry will risk his life to save his daughter.

Another primary theme of Silent Hill is that of the fairy tale and the knight. Harry Mason serves as a knight similiar to that of a fairy tale, with his daughter serving as the princess that needs to be saved.

A third primary scene, that overlaps a little with the second, is that of a twisted childhood. This theme is present through the monsters being related to childhood, as well as the areas basically being associated with childhood such as the school.

Secondary Themes:

There are a few subthemes of Silent Hill 1, which while not the main themes of the game are still relevent to the game. The first of these is the portrayal of institutions as having an evil element to them. Almost all the areas of the game are institutional, such as the school and hospital.

The last secondary theme is related to the sound and music, which is in essence the sounds of childhood distorted and corrupted. The mumbler monster sound effect is in actuality the sound of children laughing played backwards, and many of the musical themes have toy-like sounds associated with them.

Silent Hill Claw Finger Analysis

General:

The Claw Finger is a relatively common monster in Silent Hill 1, appearing first in the Elementary School. They attack by grabbing harry and stabbing into him with their sharp claws. They are slow, but can take quite a few hits and are relatively strong. In the PAL version, they are in the place of the Mumbler.

Significance:

The Claw Finger derives its appearance from small demons in fairy tales. Alessa perceived the children bullying her at school as demonic, and hence they represent the children at school. The sound they make when they notice Harry is the sound of a child laughing backwards.
